About iThemba Lethu
iThemba Lethu was established in November 2000 to invest in Children threatened by HIV/AIDS in the greater Durban/Cato Manor area. We implement three programmes namely -
1. The Family Integration Programme, which is made up of two transition homes in Manor Gardens, which care for up to 12 orphans and vulnerable children, from newborn to 3 years old, and to facilitate their reunification into biological/extended families or adoptions in new forever families.
2. The HIV Prevention Programme , which is a Behavioral Change intervention with grade 5 – 9 pupils in 7 primary/high schools of Cato Manor. We believe if you can influence their self belief and value system to bring hope and restore destiny, you change their risk taking behavior, which reduces HIV infection and unwanted teenage pregnancies, STI’s and other sexually transmitted diseases.
3. The Breast milk Bank, is a facility that co-ordinates the collection of donated breast milk from local and international breastfeeding mothers to nourish the vulnerable babies in the transition homes to give them increased nutrition and improved lifelong health.
